MMF Jubals Ambling Rascal x Zephyr Smooth As Silk

We are very proud to present The Oklahoma Kid. The Kid comes from heritage breeding with lineage going back to legendary programs like Slush Creek Walkers and Calvin Miller stock. We are very excited to have him in our program and have big plans for his future.

The Kid's sire, MMF Jubals Ambling Rascal is owned by Nicole Heim in Byers, CO. His sire line is Slush Creek Walkers and Calvin Miller breeding all the way back to the ever famous Rey-cliff Mid Merry (AKA Hill's Perfection). Great names such as The Little Red Rascal, Slush Creeks Jubal S, Bud's Sterling Bullet, and Miller's Super Man appear on this colt's great pedigree. Please visit Slush Creek Walker's wonderful page for more pictures, pedigrees, stories, and history HERE.

The Kid's dam is Zephyr Smooth As Silk. She is an own daughter of Zephyr Zephyr. Zephyr Zephyr was owned by the published author Paula F Winskye. Zephyr horses are known for their intelligence. Zephyr Zephyr goes back to the extremely famous Allen's Gold Zephyr, more famously known as Roy Roger's Trigger Jr (YES, he was a Tennessee Walking Horse!) as well as many other great Western Walking Horses.

When I went hunting for our next prospect I knew that disposition was #1, as it always is for me. I also knew that I wanted something more square going and of substance (good bone and feet). I felt a heritage/Western Walking Horse might fit the bill. I had long admired Nicole Heim's foal crops, each year picking a favorite. This fateful year I picked one out, as I always did, and watched for him to sell, the same as every passing year. But this year, life changed and I suddenly found myself with an opening for a new stallion. Though I didn't want to take a break from breeding, I desperately wanted to start our own colt from the beginning.

To my dismay, Nicole posted that she intended to keep The Kid. But a few months later I saw her post her foal crop from Tucker (MMF Jubals Ambling Rascal) with who was for sale. As I was flipping through, I was elated to see The Kid listed for sale. We made a plan to beat the winter of CO, travel 10 hours and make him ours.

The image that told me he likely had the kind, curious disposition I was searching for.

The image that sold me.

That balance.

So far The Kid is everything I was looking for: Great disposition, curious, kind, easy going, friendly. Stocky. Good gait, more on the square side. Large bone and feet. Balanced conformation for a working horse. We have a lot of amazing show blood in our horses, but I just know these are the right genetics to continue our program forward for family friendly versatility and trail Tennessee Walking Horses.

The Kid meets one of our friends with that kind, curious disposition.

A little test I like to do on all our yearlings. See if they will let me walk up to them while they are down and "sit" on them without getting up or panicking. The Kid didn't mind at all. To me it shows disposition and trust.

We are excited to see where the future takes us and The Kid. We have big plans for him.
